Welcome to Queensland Muslim Cultural & Heritage Centre

QMCHC operates a museum in close collaboration with the communities from which the Museum’s items and collections originate, the Queensland Islamic community and the Australian community.

Our permanent collection is open for the public to enjoy at the planned QMCHC site, 161 Underwood Road, Eight Mile Plains, and is open to visitors by appointment. Please note that this is a temporary housing until our permanent structures are completed.

The QMCHC is open to the public:

  • Monday to Friday  9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Sunday and Public Holidays: Closed

Attendance is by prior appointment.

Vision

A place to know and appreciate the richness and diversity of Islamic contributions to the world.

Mission

The mission of our museum is to create a place of serenity, reflection and learning that promotes knowledge and appreciation of

  • Queensland Islamic community contributions to the development of Queensland and Australia.
  • Islamic contributions to philosophy, science and technology.
  • The role of Islamic civilisation in preserving the legacy of European science, medicine, and philosophy.
  • How the rise of Islam on the Arabian Peninsula in the early 7th century and its diffusion to neighbouring regions had a major impact on the arts of the greater Middle East, the Mediterranean and South Asia.
  • That diverse cultures, religions and people have always coexisted in Islamic lands, and the ancient heritage, multiethnic population, and linguistic makeup of each region have been integral to their identities.
